Empowering a Global Charity’s Digital Presence

The Challenge

A Unified Global Digital Strategy

The Alliance’s Secretariat, which coordinates the work of member organisations, sought to execute a unified global digital strategy. The goal was to share information from their worldwide projects by linking various websites and enabling staff across
different locations to easily publish content online.

The charity’s previous content management system (CMS) was neither flexible nor scalable enough to support the vast number of users and websites across the organisation. A new system
was required with a powerful, yet intuitive interface that could ensure design consistency and support multiple languages to reflect the Alliance’s international scope. Crucially, the new system also had to meet the highest possible web accessibility
standards—specifically, Priority Level 3 (Triple-A) conformance.

The Solution

A Robust and Accessible CMS

We developed a feature-rich web CMS that allows users to update content regularly without needing a technical background.

To provide users with content autonomy while maintaining brand consistency, we created a layered security model with a hierarchical interface. This model ensured that regular users could only view and modify specific sections of a website, while webmasters were granted broader editorial control.

The CMS was specifically engineered to support both Latin-based and non-Latin languages, a key feature for an organisation with such a global footprint. The platform was also developed to inherently support accessibility standards, for example, by automatically creating compliant content areas. As a result, the International Save the Children Alliance website now fully complies with the W3C’s Triple-A Conformance guidelines for Web Accessibility.

The Result

Enhanced Communication and Brand Integrity

The International Save the Children Alliance Secretariat, along with its member organisations now using the CMS, are working effectively with the new system. They can now communicate dynamically with their supporters and are particularly impressed with how the platform grants users control while its hierarchical structure ensures the brand’s
look and feel remains consistent across all websites.

Client Testimonial

Sarah Dewe, Online Communications Manager for the International Save the Children Alliance Secretariat, shared her thoughts on the project’s success:

“The content management system has met our needs well, giving us the ownership and flexibility to manage a series of global websites. Web accessibility, cross-browser compatibility, and clean, professional design have all been high priorities for us. Malcolm and his team have proved themselves to be very committed to finding solutions to address all these issues in a very professional way. We are delighted that our international web portal, http://www.savethechildren.net/, now complies with W3C Priority Level 3 WAI Guidelines.”
